1. Squeeze the cream onto your fingers.

2. Spread a thin layer of cream on clean, dry skin, ensuring complete coverage of the hair. Wash hands immediately and thoroughly.

3. Allow the cream to work for 3 minutes. Always count time with a clock in doing so.

4. With a damp washcloth, remove the cream from a small area as a test.

5. If the hair is eliminated easily, remove the remaining cream in the shower.

6. If the hair was not eliminated correctly, allow the cream to sit for a few minutes without exceeding the total application time of 7 minutes and wash the skin using plenty of water and dry.

Hair removal is a perilous pursuit at the best of times – especially if you’re removing hair from ‘you know where’. Waxing can be eyewatering, while using a razor can lead to cuts, irritation and itchy regrowth and is one method where you (quite literally) daren’t risk taking your eye off the ball. Hair removal or ‘depilatory’ creams, on the other hand, are one of the simplest and most effective tools for manscaping – dissolving hair at the root and leaving skin smooth in minutes. Regrowth, meanwhile, tends to be less itchy because the hair, when it does pop up again, has soft fine tips, rather that the blunt ends left by shaving.

I’ve tried numerous hair removal creams in my time – including big name brand names known for their hair removal expertise – but Baldape Parlour’s Charcoal Hair Removal Cream is my own go-to fuzz buster. For one thing, it doesn’t smell nose-tinglingly bad, like many other creams do. Its grey colour – courtesy of skin cleansing charcoal – means you can see exactly where you’re applying and, best of all, it can be used on sensitive bits as well as the usual chest, shoulders, armpits and legs.

Most body hair comes off with one three-four-minute application but to tackle tougher, thicker body hair (the wiry pubic stuff in particular) you can leave it on a little longer (up to seven minutes) or simply repeat the process again the following day, applying a little unscented aftershave balm straight afterwards to soothe and protect skin. Trust me, there’s no better way to phase out the fur.

Humanery hack: Blocked bathroom plughole? Mix the cream with a small amount of water to make it a little slacker, pour down the plughole and leave for an hour or more. Since hair removal creams dissolve hair, and hair and beard clippings are the most common cause of block bathroom sinks, it makes for a great unblocker.
