The brand endeavours to become the minimalist skincare brand with a purpose. Find out the significance of the brand name as you read through this article.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your involvement with Five Dot Botanics. Where do you originally come from and what is your favourite TV show?
My name is Zaffrin O’Sullivan, Co-founder and CEO of Five Dot Botanics. I was born and raised in London and I am a first-generation British Bangladeshi. Currently, my favourite TV show is Succession, the script is brilliant!
When did you start Five Dot Botanics?
The idea for Five Dot Botanics started in 2017 but the brand didn’t launch until 2019. The idea started with the question, why are there so many synthetic ingredients in skincare products? Which led to another question: What happens if we use only concentrated natural ingredients and keep the ingredients list small enough to count on one hand? This idea germinated until we officially started trading as a company in 2019. Two years in the works and we are growing strong.
How did Five Dot Botanics come about? What inspired you to launch this brand?
I was inspired to launch Five Dot Botanics after seeing how complicated and synthetic personal cosmetics had become. I had already started to think about what was going into the food I was eating, so the next step naturally was to think about what ingredients were going into what I put onto my skin.
I wanted to create a healthy skincare brand, not a beauty brand. Everything we make is about improving your skin barrier health.
What is unique about your products?
What makes our products unique is that we only ever use five ingredients in each of them, we have no fillers and get straight to the good stuff!
Our entire product range has botanical ingredients, is vegan and contains no palm oil. Moreover, our product range is cruelty-free and of course gender-neutral. However the key is that we use highly concentrated active botanicals, our products go a long way, they are incredible for your skin without the complicated synthetic ingredients list.
Describe in only 3 words what your brand means to customers?
Radical, minimal, transparent.
Do you have any upcoming product launches? If so, can you tell us more about them?
We have a scalp health serum launching next year, which is our first innovation in scalp health. We also have a multi-functional balm launching and a new luscious cleanser.
What is your favourite product from another brand that is not currently available in your own product portfolio?
I like the original Shea Body Butter from The Body Shop.
What’s one career you wish you could have?
5 years from now, if money were no object, where would you like to see your brand and what would it represent?
The minimalist skincare brand with a purpose.
If you were helping a man get started with a grooming and beauty ritual, what are the most basic steps you'd encourage them to follow?
Do only two things;
- Cleanse your skin to clean and purify it
- Use our Deep Feed Facial Serum to lock in moisture, add antioxidants and strengthen the skin barrier.
Finally, what is an easy life hack that you think will enable men to take care of their face on a daily basis?
Use our Daily Prep Facial Oil on your beard, face and eyebrows and ends of your hair! It will give you a glow and your hair will be softer!
